A beautiful HUGE Thuya Burl Dunhill humidor. This was made special for Carl S. Hallauer, that's why the extra large size. It is 17 9/16 x 11.5 x 7 9/16" closed. This was a presentation piece to a Rochester NY man whos life is amazing. (See below) The copper plate was added to it and there is a blank insert behind it. This is a unique piece that should be in the Rochester museum. It has Carl S. Hallauer, January, 10, 1964 inscribed in the copper insert, with 11 other names around it. I haven't done any research on the other names, I will let you make those discoveries.

The name on the Dunhill humidor is Carl S. (Swift) Hallauer. Carl was Born in
Rochester NY in 1894, He was the president of Bausch Lomb from 54 -
59. He was also Delegate to the Republican National Convention from
NY1932,36,40,44,48,52,56,60,64. He was also Canidate for presidential
Elector for NY 1932,36,40. And was Presidential Elector for NY in
1948.
This guy was everywhere. They still give out awards in his name & honor.

The box itself is bigger than any I can find, it was made in 1959, I had to remove the lid to tighten up the brass plate behind the lock and the date it was made had been written in pencil under the insert. I have a key that works the lock, but it doesn't throw it back as far as it should, so you have to fool with it to get it open. I will send it with the box, but it should be rekeyed by a locksmith, it may just be from sitting for so many years and just need to be oiled. The box has a small ding it the front corner & a small white marknext ot it, you can see it in the gallery photo; if you can't let me know & I will put a better closeup. The veneer is Thuya burlwood, it is a relative to the cedar, it grows in the Western Mediterranean on the roots of the tree, it's a fairly rare or exotic burl.
