This auction is for a wonderful example of a early, sterling silver, "Salem Witch Grapefruit spoon " manufactured by the Durgin Co. in the 1890's for Daniel Low of Salem Mass. ( Durgin's Witch spoons where the first pattern to be made for Daniel Low, Gorham's was the second Witch pattern).The Salem Witch spoon is 5 3/4" in length and in excellent used condition with a gold wash on the bowl of the spoon. The hallmark of the manufacturer is on the back of the handle along with the word sterling and the name of the retailer Daniel Low . O n the back of the bowl is pat. mob. 9.91. (1891).
