An unusual Dutch sterlingsilver clog /shoe. It is hallmarked the Dutch sword mark and a makers mark ' H' and dates to theearly 20th century. It has been beautifully made being finely embossed with traditional Dutch emblems such as a windmill and sailing boat and also more unusually a blacksmith (possibly representing good luck) and Mercury, messenger to the Gods and the god of trade and travel. I am not sure for what purpose if any it was designed for but I have seen them with padded interiors used as pin cushions. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures 3.25 inches (8.1cms) long by 1 inch (2.5cms) wide and weighs 33 grams. A well made more unusual piece.
