Photo is of Dutch Leonard circa 1934-35, pictured here in his Brooklyn Dodgers uniform. Emil John Leonard was born in 1909 in Auburn, IL and died in 1983 in Springfield, IL. He played major league baseball from 1933 to 1953 as pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodgers, Washington Senators, Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs, and was selected 5 times as an All-Star. Leonard was able to remain an active and competitive pitcher through his mid-forties because of his knuckleball, which was one of the best of his generation. After his playing career ended, pitcher Dutch Leonard was a Chicago Cubs coach from 1954 to 1956. After leaving the coaching staff of the Chicago Cubs, Leonard worked with the Illinois Youth Commission until retirement in 1974. This is an original vintage 4''x6'' photograph produced by George Burke between 1934 and 1949, not a modern-day reprint.
