You are bidding on a DVD-ROM with four volumes of "Dyke's Automobile and Gasoline Engine Encyclopedia". From the title page: "The elementary principles, construction, operation and repair of automobiles, gasoline engines and automobile electric systems: including trucks, tractors, and motorcycles. Simple, thorough and Practical." A.L. Dyke, Electrical Engineer, St. Louis, Mo. The four volumes are 1918 (900 pages), 1924 (1200 pages), 1932 (1300 pages), and 1943 (1500 pages). The Dyke's Automotive Encyclopedia has been a companion to the automobile industry from its beginnings in this country through the 1950's. A new volume was issued every year, although often the changes from one year to another were minimal. Taken, say, a decade at a time, however, the differences become striking. The early volume is basically all about the Model "T" and Model "A" Ford. The last volume shows the richness of the US industry before the great consolidation into our modern 3-company market. The speed with which these books were assembled shows - many of the pages are paste-ups of manufacturer's information sheets. These books are mostly black&white but with the occasional color illustration.
