This is a nice clean old adjustable hollow auger, including the often missing adjustable depth stop clamp. This dowel maker is marked "E.C. STEANS & CO. SYRACUSE N. Y. PATENTED JUNE 5, 1900 on the side of the lower bracket, new the size adjustment graduation marks, and marked "PAT. MAR. 5, 78" on the cutter iron clamp. This is a good quality sizing tool with a good sharp cutter with plenty of length, about 70% of the original Jappaning intact, no rust or pitting, no cracks, about 95% of the nickel plating intact on the few items that originally had the plating. It measures 7.5" tall and has a capacity of 1/4-1 1/4" diameters. Like many woodworking tools, this auger may need some slight adjustment to suit your application. A nice clean woodworking tool overall, ready to use!
