Up for auction is a lovely ANTIQUE HEAVY E.G. WEBSTER & SON SILVERPLATED REPOUSSE BRIDE'S BASKET. We are still not sure how old this piece is. The stamp is a bit different from the standard E. G. Webster & Son stamp, but after days of research I am 99% sure this is the maker. That would date it to the early 1900's. E.G. Webster & Son New York & Brooklyn, New York began as a silver plating business in 1859. The company's main line was silver plated holloware and the firm was well known for its highly chased patterns and English reproductions. When the business was brought to Meriden, Connecticut in 1928, it was combined with the Barbour Silver Company factory. In 1961 the trademark was changed to Webster-Wilcox which continued until 1981 when the business was then sold to Oneida Silversmiths. It is made in the very ornate and detailed hand-chased repousse style and has a scene or 3 cherubs in flight on either side. On each end it has two birds perched on a latice fence. The base has 2 seated cherubs on each side. The handle has a cherub on either side with other florals and more birds towards the top of the handle. This was a wonderful discovery found at an estate sale, so we have no idea exactly how old it is, but I believe it is very old. It is in great condition with no silver loss or noticeable flaws.
