Here being offered is one very nice piece of Engineering and Americana history
Please note: what is seen is "exactly" how item was found at an estate sale some years back, unpolished - untouched by my consignor 9 Large pictures showing what I believe to be relevant aspects of item This is a circa 1850 W. & L.E. Gurley Railroad Compass still in original Mahagony case with Full paper label Bear with me if I err on a technical aspect as I have no advanced knowledge of such devices That being said; I do not know if this is a Double Vernier or a single or, if ALL the appropriate items are here that "should" be are or not What you view is all there is I'm calling it a Railroad Compass as I found images thru research that shows the "same" model and I am merely mentioning what some research has discovered Clearly the face of Compass is pristine, note the high polish of center spindle under the original glass and beautful Silvering clearly unblemished Face is marked: W. & L. E. Gurley with a Fluer de Leis or, speartip under and, Troy NY on bottom section The Needle on Compass is 6 inches in length, and moves freely Lack of patinas lead me to believe item was stored in a dry warm locale Level bubbles intact, adjusting screws and handles, knobs, etc. corrosion free Interior of case has a loose corner brace (seen in upper right crnr. pic#5) I tucked it there for image sake Comes with a number of solid Brass devices including a Plumb Bob (pics #'s 5 & 6)Aside from the loose wooden corner piece; only other issue is minimal vertigris on underside seen (pic#4) and some "wear" to the small dial left side pic #7 Part of the booty from a "hoarder" who has since deceided (see wife says) to dispose of years of yard sales, flea market and auction purchases Lots and lots of great collectibles, jewelry, vintage, gold, sterling, watches, etc. Lots and lots listed as fast as I can; so bookmark my page for lots to see I will gladly combine shippings where and if; feasible but and only on items invoiced togeather Please contact me with any questions Insurance; if desired are buyers additional expense Any item fragile or, over $25 in value will automatically be insured I will not be held liable for lost or, damaged parcels Please wait for invoice before payment and notify me if additional methods are desired Outside USA please contact me for shipping quote
