The Grapevine Border Series by Enoch Wood & Sons is printed with many different scenes of English country houses and castles. This 11" pearlware cheese stand has "Hylands, Essex" in the center with the grapevine border on the inside edge, the outside edge and the base. What makes this piece unusual is the print is rare for a cheese stand (perhaps unique) and the color of the blue is quite dark. I have other pieces of this series in this catalog and the series is usually printed in a medium blue. Other than a hairline in the base, condition is excellent. I love the cows and sheep in the print! And I love that Cheese stands are useful for serving cheese, cake, quiche or cookies. The piece was made in Staffordshire around 1825-1830. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.
