All Comic fans know that the Reverend MarcusMorris created “The Eagle” in response to what he saw as the growth inpopularity of violent American comics. Morris and local artist Frank Hampson took their idea of wholesome boy's comic including ‘Dan Dare – Pilot of the Future', to Hulton Press. I wonder what Morris thought when Marvel’s ‘Tales of Asgard’ with Thor was introduced. The comic introduced such characters as PC 49, Captain Pugwash, Skippy the Kangaroo and many more during its nineteen year run. The back pages were not as often stated religious or historical stories in 1968 as you will see if you purchase these three comic lots. I wonder how many comics survived, not just due to time & natural wastage but because the comics were not stapled it was easy to remove sheets to bring together a favourite tale especially as Dan Dare may be on page 18 and then continued pages later on the back page. The comics also varied in length from 24 pages to 32 pages and issue 40 is even longer (length) than other copies, but in regards to page numbers is a 24 page issue Dan Dare created by Frank Hampson was the flagship of the comic. The 1950’s was unquestionably the comic’s golden age. The first Dan Dare story, simply called - Dan Dare Pilot Of The Future - but now referred to as The Venus Story , lasted for an incredible 77 weeks. I read more
