In the early 1960s Alexander Girard was commissioned to outfit the La Fonda del Sol restaurant at New York's Rockefeller centre. Girard was responsible for the restaurants's overall interior ranging from wallpaper to crockery, and it was furnished in the Eames Office. For the restaurant the Eames' came up with the striking chromed die-cast aluminium base that can be observed on this coffee table. Fitted with a amazing marble tabletop, the La Fonda is an elegant table for home or office. This is not a reproduction but an original period table with the very unique original marble top which has soo much more character than the new versions sold by Vitra for $2000 plus. The condition of the base is good with pitting to areas of the chrome finish. The condition of the marble is excellent free of chips or damage. The table measures 30" in diameter x 18" high.
