Charles Eames vintage Zenith Plastics chair 1950-53 for Herman Miller You are bidding on a very early vintage original design by Charles Eames , one of the earliest production examples of the famous fiberglass chairs by Eames. This chair was manufactured by Zenith Plastics, Gardena , California (see photo of decal) sometime between 1950 and 1953, and distributed by Herman Miller, Zeeland , Michigan . These are the earliest examples of the Eames fibreglass chairs, prior to their mass production by the Herman Miller Company - translucent in color with the fibreglass strands and rope edge clearly visible, a characteristic of these earlier and rarer versions produced by Zenith Plastics. Reference: Neuhart and Eames, Eames Design , pp. 139- 141 . Description: Beautiful, delicate "Parchment" color (one of three offered for this early version) semi-translucent fiberglass with visible rope edge, metal base, rubber shock mounts add to the base with glue. Zenith Plastics decal on bottom of shell. (see photo). Condition: Excellent - all appears original - no replacement parts, shock mounts and glue in outstanding condition, no breaks, no cracks. The chair shows its age with the slight browning of some of the exposed fiberglass strands, some very tiny brown dotting of the fiberglass, and visible fiberglass strands at the surface in the thinner sections of the fiberglass. This is typical of the material and its age. The metal base is intact, with no welds or repairs. T is some slight scuffing of the black paint near the bottom of the supports, no rust pitting, otherwise in great condition for a chair of this age. We have set the reserve at a reasonable level - well below its value at auction houses in Chicago , New York and Los Angeles . PAYPAL ONLY US bidders only
