ANTIQUE EAPG U.S.GLASS HIGH STANDARD PEDESTAL COMPOTE/CAKE STAND Gorgeous ART Pattern aka Job's/Jacob's Tears, Circa 1891 Hiya and welcome to my auction, Up for your consideration is a beautifully exquisite piece of antique glass. This compote is called Art or other wise known as Job's Tears or Jacob's tears, Teardrop or Diamond Block. Made by U.S. Glass, circulation date 1891. This information can be found in Early American Pattern Glass Id and price guide by: Darryl Reilly & Bill Jenks page 25. The compote has a simple but beautiful elegant pattern, of rotating teardrops, thumbprints and daimond teardrop. Starting with it's beautiful almond shaped teardrop base that silohuettes gracefully to it's wonderfully shaped stem that also has a exquisite pattern of thumbprint desgin. The stem is thick and sturdy and leads to a gorgeous bowl. The bowl has a 1-1/2 inch teardrop and diamond shaped pattern rim that flares out into a 4" inch rim and surrounds around and beneath the bowl. I have sold many of grandmother's collection slowly but this one is really and truly amazing! It is so beautiful especially when the light shines thru it (Please look at pictures) Don't let this one get away! This is a compote but wide enough to put a cake in it or any dessert you might want to display beautifully. My grandparents had a diner in Queens (Long Island City) New York in the corner of Austed Place. My grandmother use to make the best cakes ever. I remember as a child eating her delicious cakes, my favorite chocolate peanut butter cake w/chocolate peanut butter icing! Yummy, I swear nobody cooks better than grandma's! I wish I could include the recipe but my mom doesn't want me to give it out, I am sorry =( . Maybe someday she'll cave in..lol The compote is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks nor any visible or felt repairs. I did test it under black light and it glows old green glass. It measures 8-1/2inches tall, 10 inches wide in diamter and 5 inches at the base and it has 4 mold lines. This cake stand is ready for display. It also has no scratches to the salver.
