Professionally cleaned, fully restored and verified as authentic, this is vintage "WAGNER" as it was meant to look!! When this surprisingly fine 95+ year old #10 cast iron skillet left the Wagner factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for very routine kitchen use, now once again looks much like it did roughly a century ago! This auction is for a VERY GOOD "WAGNER" -marked #10 ( Iron Finish ) cast iron skillet with Heat Ring, in UNUSUALLY GOOD overall condition . Established in Sidney, Ohio around 1891 as The Wagner Manufacturing Company, a full quarter century after The Griswold Manufacturing Company, Wagner quickly caught up and became Griswold's fiercest competitor, and produced some of the finest cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America. To no one's surprise, after Griswold slipped into bankruptcy in 1957, Wagner controlled 60% of the domestic market for fine quality cast iron cookware. This early skillet variety was produced from 1891 to around 1910, and was the very first made, and the initial skillet variety ever produced by Wagner! This really fine old frying pan measures 11.75" rim-to-rim, 12.5" spout-to-spout, 16.5" rim-to-handle tip, at 2.25" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 9.75", and has an outset Heat Ring diameter of 10.0". This attractive vintage cooking pan is deeply incised on the exterior bottom with the arc-style Wagner name " WAGNER ", and has the stylized size number " 10 " below. Typical of well-made skillets produced during this era, and quite similar to the thin-walled "ERIE" skillets produced by Griswold, this very nice old skillet also has the "anthill-style" handle support, the "ribbed" handle bottom and the exterior reinforced rim . Well cast of fine grained iron with surprisingly little exterior casting roughness, and with just a very few casting bumps, dimples or flow marks in evidence, this quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry pan has no chips, cracks, pits, rust, warping, bowing, or repairs, sits absolutely flat on any hard, level surface, and rings nicely like a bell when tapped. Very collectible to be sure, and having a warm, rich, dark color, this well-maintained cooking skillet has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent and very careful use of this frying skillet has almost totally worn away the manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT" from the polished interior, and despite just a very few tiny utensil marks, has created a cooking surface that is VERY SMOOTH to the touch, and virtually non-stick!
