Offered for your consideration: One very rare and early Spanish Colonial Cup-Hilt Rapier. This absolutely untouched and 100% original piece dates from the late 17th - early 18th Centuries. Many of these swords were produced in Spain's Colonial posessions with imported Spanish steel blades. This piece appears to be a textbook example. The Cup Hilt is primitive and bench made iron. The Blade is steel and has a good ammount of sring and bend to it, pointing to a high quality European production. The hilt retains a wooden grip with a faint checkerboard pattern, its original wrap has gone to time. One of the bar langets appears to have been removed to lighten the weapon, everything else is in good order. Blade is approximately 36" in length and 1 1/8" width at the ricasso with three faint blood grooves. This is a wider and sturdier blade than later pieces and was engineered for martial purposes, not a court sword The metal exhibits a uniform oxidation which gives it an attractive plum surface and would clean up beautifully! This is truly a rare weapon in good functional order and over 300 years old. Could this sword have defended a Spanish treasure ship from buccaneers? Please bid with confidence! Good Luck and Thank you! PLEASE CHECK OUT MY OTHER AUCTIONS FOR MORE GREAT MILITARIA! Note: Shipping quoted is a flat cost for continental
