Up for bid is an extremely old CASED GLASS BOWL with APPLIED AMBER DECORATIVE TOP by EITHER MT WASHINGTON or STEVENS & WILLIAMS. It approximately measures 4.5 inches tall by 9.5 inches wide. To be this old it is flawless in condition with no chips or cracks or grazing at all other than typical manufacturing occurrences evident of hand blown glass. Here is the history of this bowl that I know about it:
I had been looking at this for months at a local antique shop and loved it immediately. This was probably 20 years ago. They wanted $600 for it and would not budge off the price. (they knew what they had apparently). I made a trip to New Orleans maybe 6 months later and was taken to the N'Orleans museum of art where I immediately gravitated to the rare glass collection. This EXACT bowl was on display there and I said to myself it's it's good enough for them it sure is for me, so when I got home ,praying all the way it was still unsold, I bought it. The museum description said it was either Mt Washington or Stevens and WIlliams cased glass from about 1824. I have had the piece in my display collection of rare glass for the last 20 or so years. This is one RARE piece of hand blown extremely old cased glass with the applied amber top. As you can see the inside is a dark pink and fades to a light pink on the bottom of the bowl. I hate giving this piece up for sure but I am moving out of the country soon and am liquidating my entire collection of rare glass. Keeping this in mind and the fact that I have described this to the best of my knowledge and ability please let your eyes and the pics determine it's worth. Therefore it is being sold AS FOUND with NO RETURNS. It will be shipped very securely packaged and insured with signature required. Please feel free to ask any question and thanks so much for your consideration.
