An Authentic Low-Country 1800's Pine Plantation Des k A Rare original vintage early 1800's 2-section Pine Plantation Desk from Virginia - a remarkable example of true plantation life furniture. I understand this style of desk was made so that the top section could be easily removed and put on the horse-drawn field plow for them to write on as they surveyed the crops. I have researched this to no avail and have only come across a few over the years - everyone I spoke to has told me that this is a "True Working Plantation Desk". It has a removable drop down top for writing with multiple original compartments inside. The bottom section has a dove-tailed drawer and original turned legs and wooden pegs that fit in top slots. I purchased this in Martinsburg WV 20 years ago from a dealer who found it at an old plantation estate sale - told it had been in the house for many generations. It has never been properly restored - only some water-based stain and wood wax. Considering the age and neglect, it is in remarkable shape. The wooden drop down section has a long crack that was repaired with wood gule and is intact and functions properly. The lower turn knobs on the front to legs of the lower section have some chewing damage - but neither impact structure, function or beauty. The bottom section measures 28inches high by 37 wide and 21deep. The top section 23 inches high by 11inches deep 35 wide. It is made of old pine and not heavy - I would guess each section weighs no more than 35-40 pounds. To the best of my knowledge -all parts of this remarkable desk are authentic/original. Special Shipping Requirements: Buyer must arrange to have the desk picked up in Arlington VA within 7 days of receipt of payment. Seller prefers payment via paypal but will accept cashiers check or money order. If buyer pays with cashiers/money order, pickup cannot occur until check is deposited and clears by bank.
