Please note, we have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description:This listing is for an Early 18th Century Dutch William and Mary Style Oak Three Drawer Chest. It features three lightly graduated drawers crested by a careful molding. The very early and possible original finish captures a deep patina and intense glow throughout; beyond the patina and depth of oxidization throughout the piece, other hints of fully original finish include escutcheons that have never been removed and original marks where the previous droplets swung back and forth on the face of the drawers. This is a stunning chest, incredible in how much of it is completely and entirely original. Throughout each joint, hand forged rose head iron nails secure the entire case firmly together. Each piece of hardware is completely hand crafted and cast, with original escutcheons flanked on either side by replaced but also hand crafted and cast droplet pulls. The lock hardware appears to be completely original as well, being hand forged and secured in place with rose head iron nails - the size of groove inside each drawer fits the lock perfectly with no gaps. The drawers are nailed, not dovetailed, with oak secondary woods on the sides and bottoms. Dividers slide into the face of the chest, keeping each drawer in line. Both sides of the chest have applied full-round molding. The apron of the chest has wonderful carved molding wrapping around the entire piece. The entire chest rests on four large bun feet. This is a rare and wonderful find, particularly in this condition and level of originality. It captures the truest essence of the William and Mary era. As a must-have for any serious collector of 18th century furniture, it is also a fine piece of functional decor in a library or den. Through three hundred years of mellowing, it has developed a deep and warm glowing patina that brings a sense of nostalgia to any setting. Measurements: 37" wide, 20" deep, 36 1/4" high Bottom drawer 9 1/4" high, middle drawer 8 3/4" high, top drawer 7 7/8" high Condition: Visually Outstanding Condition - Early finish, possibly original. Two board top, but with one board split through. Scarring throughout piece with deep oxidization throughout, as well as ring formations here and there on surface. All hardware appears to be original with the exception of the droplet drawer pulls, which are replaced but are very early hand cast and crafted replacements correct for the period. Feet possibly replaced as they do not show much wear. Rosehead nails evident throughout with thick oxidizing of iron in boards proving them to be original. Drawers have difficulty opening at times as bottom of drawers are two boards, and sometimes catch inside of the chest as they move in and out. Two boards on underside of chest are replaced - the original rosehead nails were preserved and used to secure the boards, preserving it's sense of originality. Very sturdy and stable, in excellent functional condition. Non-noteworthy dings, scratches and abrasions throughout consistent with age and use.
