Larger Round Shaped Brass Plated Metal Basket. Original Red Ribbon on Handle.. German Christmas Ornament. Early 1900s. Woven brass strips... intricately put together by hand--also a cottage industry in Germany. These were most often sold in jewelry stores as they were to be filled with tiny jewelry presents and placed on the Christmas tree. This is a miniature.. Would hold a ring or earrings.. Also sold by confectioners as they were also filled with little candy delights---chocolates, marzipan, coated almonds, etc. Yes, there is some tarnish... part of its rich, long history. Fantastic with the woven wire handle, and the two rings of woven wire around the top of the basket. A very heavy woven handle with original red ribbon still intact after all these years. Absolutely amazing. Graceful shape and so wonderful for little gifts and bits of candy while on the Christmas tree. I must add as I photographed these close-up, it reveals all of it.. I am so happy I don't have to take a close-up of myself.. Ugh.. How awful that would be.. wrinkles, old age, etc. So excuse the close-up..so much more closer than we would look at them on the Christmas tree. These are really neat..
