This gorgeous Early 20th Century French Display Cabinet with Arch Glass Door, Mirror, and Glass Shelves stands 75" high, measures 43 1/2" wide and 17 1/2" deep. This piece is covered in a mahogany veneer, which still maintains its beautiful coloring. The base features large and impressively detailed brass claw feet, which, within the broader entablature structure of this Neo-Classical piece, actually serve as the base for the pairs of brass human feet of the door framing pilasters. The extensively detailed female caryatid heads on these two structural pilasters are pointed straight ahead, while the two angels on the door (one holding a horn and the other holding a wreath) alternatively face inward, towards each other. At the bottom of the door is the traditional olive branch and floral medallion brass detailing that can also be found at the top, but the olive branch formed into a wreath and tied with a flowing ribbon actually surrounds the head of Medusa. The addition of this repoussé caricature, who is the likely the owner of the large and frightening claw feet, makes this already unique looking cabinet a must-have for any collector. The interior and exterior glass looks amazing, including the new custom-fitted three interior glass shelves. This item requires special shipping considerations.
