A pair of Staffordshire Plates. One is 9 4/8" and the other 9 7/8" in diameter with bright red enameled border with inner scene showing a Chinese doctor or apothecary preparing medicine with mortar and pestle. The center scene shows Chinese figures. One is standing with an umbrella to shade the physician, a seated doctor/apothecary preparing medicines, probably herbal, for the lady on the other side of the table. To the preparer's left note several little cups and other medical devices The scene is most likely taken from an early print or engraving. The plates were most likely made by Elijah Mayer of Cobden Works, Hanley, Staffordshire potteries 1790-1804 and 1805-1834. I will ship internationally and insurance is required on ALL shipments. Thank you for looking. I will be putting more of this pattern on eBay in the future. I will only charge the exact postage charge. The cost will vary due to the packing. I have added pictures of the backs. The slight cream marks on the right one are the remmants of a label: the brown marks on the left are pottery "spots".
