Beautiful Maritime painting of a ship at sea. The painting is very nicely done and is rich with details including people on the ship and the sublte birds in the sky. The painting is likely late 19th century due to the style and construction of the frame. The ship is named the Jorgensen, as evidenced by the stern. The painting is monogrammed on the bottom right with the initials AMJ and t are two small black near the J. One above and one to the right. The ship is flying the Danish flag and is a Three (3) masted schooner. T is some minor repairable damage to the paint most likely from innappropriate storage. T are no tears to the canvas. I have done my best to photograph it. T are other photos available if anyone would like to see them. I will send them as they are requested. The painting is unframed, and in the same condition as when I found it. I have taken the painting to a local gallery in an effort to discover more about its origins and was told other than minor reconditioning and a good cleaning that the painting is in amazing condition for its age. T is evidence of mold or other residue on the canvas which is long been abated. I suspect it is due to the dry Nevada air. The painting measures 15 inches by 22 1/4 inches. and is fixed to the frame by iron nails. The painting is in the style of Antonio Jacobsen and may be one of his later works as I was told that after C. 1900 he often Monogrammed his paintings in block letters. However, I do not make any claims as to the exact provenance of this painting. This painting is wonderful and will make a great additon to a collection. I have set the reserve very low considering my inability to directly identify the artist. If anyone knows who the artist may be, please let me know!
