This is a large, beautiful, fold-out valentine with four layers, featuring a sailing ship festooned with blue garlands and highlighted with gold. Details include antique paper honeycomb attaching the ship to the base, and red cellophane behind the portholes. The back layer contains lots of intricate diecut fretwork for the ship's rigging. Another layer depicts the side of the oceanliner and a girl with a hear suit playing card; next is a young boy and girl; and finally, a swan. Unsurprisingly for its age and size, this valentine does have some edge wear: a small portion of the top garland is missing as are two mast ends, and the bottom of the ship and sea have small edge creases. The bottom of the stand-up base reads "To My Valentine" in a very lovely ornate calligraphy, and has a small smudge above the lettering. Although all the strips of cellophane appear to be intact, some portholes are cracked. This German-printed valentine measures approximately 10.5 inches tall by 12 inches wide, a large and detailed example of its vintage.
