Up for auction is this unusual 4 color spongeware decorated lidded sugar bowl.This is an estate fresh, scarce piece of spongeware that was just acquired out of an old home in the historic old west end of Toledo,Ohio last week.I believe this is an early example of Americana spongeware.The colors are red,white,blue and green.The sugar bowl stands approx. 7 1/2 inches tall to the top finial on the lid and the base measures approx. 5 1/2 inches across at the widest point.The condition is actually exceptional given its early age.T is some minor wear around w the lid sits on the base and one exceptionally tight age line that extends about 3/4 an inch down from the top rim of the base. T are no chips, damage or repairs at all to the lid or outside portion of the base excepting some minor expected age wear.T is a little split in the one handle "as pictured" that is most likely a manufacturing flaw that happened when it was fired in the kiln.Rarely would I expect to find a piece this early in this good of condition.This unique sugar tureen displays wonderful from all sides.It has an elegant shape with a curved,ribbed body and the colors are bright and vivid.PLEASE feel free to email me for more pictures you may need or questions you may have and I will be happy to help!
