Early American Aqua Blue Blown Three Mold Decanter This rare and controversial Early American Blown Three Mold Decanter was purchased at a recent estate sale. I sold numerous authentic pieces of Blown Three Mold from a private collection two years ago and these pieces are extremely scarce; this is the first piece I have come across since that sale. The decanter is in good condition, with no chips, cracks or repairs. The decanter does show a significant amount of trapped impurities. T are many air bubbles and the appearance of the glass is very grainy. The extremely rough pontil does have an extra glob of glass within the raised rough pontil. The decanter is slightly lop-sided. The color of the glass has more of an aqua or teal appearance rather than the dark or cobalt blue color. The original stopper is missing; the neck does have slight wear in the interior portion w the stopper resided. I have read the article written by Dwight P Lanmon, in the January 1983 The Magazine "Antiques". In "Unmasking an American Glass Fraud", the author cites certain characteristics always present in the fake glass, such as the excellent quality of glass used in the fakes. This decanter does not have those characteristics. In The American Glass Book, by George McKearin, this decanter is listed as: GIII-5, page 254 Type of Base Pattern: Rayed Type VII
