This auction is for a rare collection of THE AMERICAN BIBLE. These 38 original leaves are from RARE and HISTORIC Bibles that were printed in the American Colonies and the United States during the Seventeenth, Eighteenth, and Nineteenth Centuries. The collection was issued in 1993 in four volumes in Folio size (14" x 22"H). Each leaf comes with a hinged mat and accompanying explanatory material. Also included are four cloth tray cases. Leaves include the 1663 Eliot Indian Bible which was the first Bible printed in America as well as other leaves in indigenous languages. Also included are leaves from the first complete Bibles printed in America in English, French, Hebrew, and Spanish as well as the first New Testaments printed in America in Greek, Portuguese, Dutch and Swedish. The publication price was $8800.00. This set is excellent for teaching and for exhibition. This set of leaves has been framed in 18K gold leafed oak leaf frames. Each frame measures 15 1/4" x 23 1/4"H. This is the #2 set of the 100 sets made and belonged to Jonathan Byrd who supplied the leaves for the collection. Note the rarity of the pages included in this collection with 8 title pages from Matthew, 3 pages of John 3:16, 18 title pages from Proverbs, 2 title pages from Leviticus, a title page from Psalms, and an engraving from Genesis. The leaves have been appraised at $46,250. These appraisals are available upon request. This purchase will be professionally packed and shipped by UPS ground.
