Please note, we have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description:This listing is for a Period Regency Solid Mahogany Chest over a Single Drawer, probably of the first quarter of the 19th Century. It features gorgeous fully solid single thick Mahogany boards on the top and front, with solid mahogany primaries thickly constructing the entire chest. Oak secondary woods make up the less visible portions of the chest. The lid is perfectly formed, with a broad smooth planed surface with a deep patina, cascading into a carved and beveled molding. The case is perfectly constructed with careful rows of tight dovetailing along the sides and bottom of the case, each formed within the most beautiful swirling grain mahogany. On either side of the case, stunning and entirely original handcrafted brass handles make movement of the case practical - both handles are still in fully functional condition, and sturdy enough to move the chest. The front of the lid boasts two rings, created to allow ease of lift - one ring is hand forged, with distinct variation and hand craftsmanship visible throughout. The other ring is a later replacement. The lid lifts over what appear to be two original hinges, lifting with smooth function to hang evenly on a single later added chain that allows the lid to remain in limbo. Inside the chest a light green papering covers the interior. The chest rests over two fully dovetailed drawers, each with golden oak secondary woods constructing the frame of the drawer. The bail pull hardware for the drawers appears to be hand crafted and original to the piece. Both drawers slide in and out of the piece with ease. This is a very unique find in incredible condition, with well developed depth of finish and glow that brings out excellent patina throughout. The care shown in the formation of the lid is a testament to the craftsman who designed it. Its high style and class allow it to maneuver comfortably in a wide variety of settings - from the more obvious and practical uses as a blanket chest in a bedroom of period nature, to being a sofa table or coffee table in a more formal setting, even to operating as an incredibly classy Entertainment stand holding up to a 45" TV, this piece is the essence of flexibility. Measurements: 23" deep by 47 1/4" wide by 30" high Condition: Visually Outstanding Condition - Of rings to lift the lid, one is original and fully hand crafted while one is replaced. Old but probably not original finish. Handles on either side appear to be fully original to the piece. Hinge hardware interior to lid appears to be fully original. Chain interior later added. Bail pull hardware appears to be hand crafted and original. Fully dovetailed frame. Lock hardware replaced. Crack down top of lid, not destabalizing. Feet replaced/added at later date, all with minor wear and splits. Separation between boards inside chest above the drawers. Minor dings, splits, and abrasions throughout that are consistent with age and not visually detracting. Please see photos below for full disclosure of condition and condition report.
