Early BoehmPercheron Mare Horse RCP 306 01 rare Dapple Gray This is a free standing glazed decorated Dapple Gray porcelain Mare. According to the book Porcelain Art of Edward Marshall Boehm, Boehm’s first figures were a mare and foal together on a base. Only three such sets were produced and all now reside in major collections. Afterward, the mare and foal were reproduced separately, as a mare figure and a foal figure. This is the mare figure, of which 50 or less were produced before 1959, number RCP-306-01. A picture of this figurine is featured in the section under The Horses. It measures 11 1/2” x 8” and carries the Boehm Mark on the bottom of the hoof (see picture). The head trust out, ears up, tail cut short, right hind leg drawn up with tip of her hoof touching the ground. I have looked at the Boehm signature on the hoof through a loop and it has the appearance of being hand written. Perhaps a professional Boehm collector would know if Boehm hand signed these early pieces. Condition: The tail and raised leg have been repaired by previous owner (see pictures). But please note, the Boehm website has a conservation service. Edward Boehm’s attention to detail and skill in porcelain gave him world wide notoriety. His pieces are found in collections from Presidents to English Royalty and even in the Vatican . In 1951 a Percheon Stallion was purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art. This is a rare opportunity for serious Boehm collectors. Payment due within 10 days of end of sale.
