A Rose...In my friend, I find a second self.. This great estate find and original Capo di Monte basket weave container is in excellent, mint condition and is very early...possibly late 1800's. The rope weave of the basket is totally realistic and precise. It is marked with the King of Naples' N...with complete crown & scepter and CAPODIMONTE and later..Fare A Italia and (injected?)over that, Made in Italia, all under the glaze(s). Perhaps it was made for the Italian domestic market, then changed...stamped over in english for export! I see this sort of smeary overlapping through a jewelery loop...tedious, as you will see on one photo. The basket is ceramic and the rose and its petals sitting atop are fine porcelain and hand painted. The craftsmanship is outstanding! The swirls of the top and bottom of this heartshape box meet and curve in absolute harmony. The covered box measures 3 7/8 inches high...including the rose. Both base and cover are each about 2 in. high. The width is about 6 inches. The depth of the bowl is 1 1/2 inch. It weighs about 18 ounces. This lovely heartshaped box, with its soft and mellowed patina is a true piece of history and a wonderful gift for any Mother or special person. I feel that it would make a most special potpourri container for, among other things, rose petals!! And of course, it is also a trinket box as well as cache pot. Thanks for giving this wonderful item your interest. I have listed special fast posting for Mother's Day.
