This is a very large, early, hand-forged fireplace kettle swivel hook. It would have hooked over a crane in a large, possibly walk-in, fireplace to allow the cook to rotate the kettle periodically without having to pick the kettle up. This was a real labor saver in the 1800s. Swiveling kettle hooks are very hard to find. This one is 33 1/2 inches long, has its old original finish and is in very good condition. A rare find for your 18th or 19th century kitchen collection. Thanks for looking.
