HUANGHUALIBITONG (BRUSHPOT) Origin : China. Age : 17 th /18 th Centuries. Size : 5.75âe high, 5.25âe wide (14cm high, 12.5cm wide). Design : Classic form, circular section Bitong, with very slightly waisted profile. Good grain featuring one âeoeghost faceâe knot, which is typical for Huanghuali, and a way of identifying this wood from other similar hardwoods. Very good old patina. A totally genuine Huanghuali scholars' object, rare to find at present. Mark : None. Materials/techniques : Carved huanghuali, with a separate piece of wood fitted to the base. Condition : Excellent condition, with good old wear/patina, including scratches, some small stains, and one or two very minor chips to the top and bottom rim. Beginnings of a crack running down one side from the top for about 1 inch, but not actually open (only mentioned for accuracy). The base is probably a later (19 th C) replacement, as would be expected. No restoration, and no further chips or cracks other than those previously mentioned.
