EARLY COCO CHANEL GRIPOIX NECKLACE, late 1920s; unmarked. Polychrome glass, within gold-tone setting- 32 in. long.Provenance:From the estate of Alexandra Danilova, (Russian 1903-1997), prima ballerina who trained at the Russian Imperial Ballet School in St. Petersburg. In 1924 she left Russia with George Balanchine and danced for Serge Diaghilev's Ballets Russes and later with Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo. Later she would teach, along with Balanchine, at the School of American Ballet in New York until her retirement in 1989.Presented to Alexandra Danilova by Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel The necklace is 32 in. long. In excellent condition. Upon closer inspection the necklace is composed of plastic-like "gems" rather than glass or crystal.
