This item was a prized piece in my friend's early glass collection. He was very knowlegable in collecting glass, in fact he used to do teaching seminars on glass. This piece was part of his "lecture" group as an example of early Sandwich glass. Condition: T are a number of chips on the underside of the points as shown in the photos. This is often the case with early utilitarian glass. Most of the chips are nicks, but three of the chips are bigger as shown in the pictures. The chips do not really show when viewing the piece right side up. Nice smooth ground bottom, nice rounded top edges, no chips to the base or the top edges. T is one tiny flake on the mouth of the salt. Even with this typical damage I would say that this would still be an excellent addition for a serous Sandwich glass or salt cellar collector. The paper labels are just identifying marks my friend used in his lectures. These could be removed easily by the buyer. The last photo shows a grouping of early Boston Sandwich and other pattern glass from his lecture collection.............not included in this auction, but watch for them as I will be listing them in the next week or so.
