's an old daguerreotype, judging from the brass frame it's probably from the early days. T is a tape on the other side which says 'Peter Tinsley' . When I first got this, I took the glass out to clean, it was really dirty. Of course, I didn't touch the daguerreotype image itself, but it was really neat to get a clear view of it without the glass. The image is slightly tinted in places, a blue bow tie or whatever it's called; a gold key or something hanging from his vest; slightly pinkish face. Keep in mind that with a daguerreotype, the image looks almost like a mirror and you have to look at it at just the right angle to see the image. They're difficult to photograph. One piece of small wood missing from case at top of side opposite the image. Hooking clasp is still t on the outside. A black cloth tape has been used to hold the two parts of the case together, which was apart when I bought it. Case measures about 2 3/4 inches by 3 1/4.
