Here we have an early French Portico 4 column clock for restoration. I do say restoration because I feel as this clock could be restored without much effort for someone with a bit of time and some woodworking skills. The ebony case needs some work and has a missing return on the bottom right of the case and has some chips on the rest of the case. I tried to show some in the pictures but being an ebony case it wouldn't be that difficult to restore. There is an interesting stamp on the top of the case which I've never seen on one of these before, I showed it in the 6th picture. Whether it's original to the clock or not I do not know, when the clock came to me from a collection of very early clocks it was covered in dust and I only wiped it off for the pictures. The movement is complete less pendulum and appears to be in good restorable condition, ie no broken wheels or pivots. The movement is clearly early with the The dial is cracked and has a chip or two out of it but both hands appear original and the bezel is attached with glass in good shape. The alabaster columns are great, no cracks or chips that I have seen and should clean up quite well. The column bases and capitals are all there and should also clean up quite nicely. I just can't bring myself to part this one out and want to see it restored to its former beauty. Pendulums read more
