Early George III Antique Pair Cased Verge Fusee Pocket Watch 1765 C.Buchanon, London This auction is for a rare antique pair cased verge fusee pocket watch by Charles Buchanon, London. It has a winding key. (Needs a smaller size key for the hands) The watch is in reasonably good condition for its age. The outer case looks to be brass with silver rims, it may have once been covered with tortoise shell or horn as there are pin marks around the edge. It has minor age related dents and marks but closes tightly and the hinge is good. It has some old service papers inside. The inner case is made from sterling silver, it fits snugly in the outer case. It is hallmarked for London, 1765 (k) with makers mark SP. Again it has some minor age related wear but is in good condition and closes tightly. The watch has a verge fusee movement by Cha (Charles) Buchanon, London with serial number 6631. The chunky movement has square Egyptian pillars and a intricately decorated balance cock with floral decoration and grinning face. It has a silver regular wheel. The movement runs the full length of the chain and keeps reasonably good time for a verge (about 10-20 minutes over a 24 hour period). It was tested laying face up, flat on a table it does not like to be moved around and I would recommend a service if it was going to be carried around and used read more
