Early GRENFELL Signed Hooked Mat, Man Hiking Snowshoes

This auction is for an original signed Grenfell hooked mat ca. early 1900's. It is approximately 7 1/4" by 9 1/4". The subject matter is the full-bodied profile of a man wearing showshoes hiking in the woods with a log or rifle on his shoulder. The "hooking" appears particularly fine on this one, with about 150 loops per square inch. It is in excellent condition except for some wear at the very top, which is pretty much confined to the top half inch or so (photo #3). The colors are strong and very little fading has occurred, which is apparent by comparing the front (photo #1) with the back (photo #5). The white patches on the back are remnants of paper. Apparently a previous owner glued the mat to a paper mounting of some sort. This has not adversely affected the front in any way. The original Grenfell tag reads "Grenfell Labrador Industries Hand-Made in Newfoundland and Labrador". Please email me if you have any questions.
