An Excellent Hand Carved "Hessian Soldier" Made of Pine Wood , With Some Gesso over, and Well Painted. This is one of the finest Pennsylvania Folk Art Carvings you'll ever have a chance to buy. I had 2 of these in my collection ,and one was sold ,and severely damaged in shipment , and this is the survivor. It is complete ,and he has his Rifle with Bayonet, Ammunition Pack on his Belt ,and his Sword. The Paint used , is whatever was handy in those days, Oil based ,Mineral based ,and there is Some Varnish over ,remaining . There is some wear to the paint from handling over time ,and it is in ready to display condition. The Person who authenticates Carvings for me is in Ill health ,and you're buying it as you see it, I can't absolutely say who carved this masterpiece . There is a Date seen on the Bottom "1883". It is correct in every way for this period. If you collect Early Pennsylvania Carvings ,don't let this one slip by .It measures 10" high x 3 1/2" wide. I'm selling it with NO reserve ,and only one Penny to start. Insured shipping in the US only is 13.85.
