You are bidding on ONE Early Hand Forged Denglestock PA Dutch Scythe Sharpening Anvil. Measuring 7 9/16" long, the face is 1 1/4" wide, and this weighs 1 lb 4 1/4 oz unboxed. Not signed as to the maker. Now what's a denglestock (also spelled dengelstock and a bunch of other ways as well), you ask? Well them old PA Dutch (German) farmers, being of a thrifty (also know as cheap) bunch, instead of grinding down their scythe blades, would stick the denglestock into a stump or the top of a fence post and using a cross peen hammer (called the dengle of all things) would draw out the edge of the blade till it was sharp and then dress it with a stone. Pretty neat eh? This is in reasonably good shape and was cleaned. This does have a steel face set into the wrought iron body and that is some right hard steel. The face is good other than a small chip of of one end. The body has some wear. The spike is good. This ain't perfect but then these guys rarely are. A great early PA farm collectible for sure! The full size picture is at the bottom of the listing page. And remember..the more ya buy, the cheaper dey fly!
