Offered is a one-of-a-kind, EARLY (18th century or before), ornate wrought iron combination rush light & taper jack (coil candle holder). Fantastic workmanship, from the scroll cut edges of the pan, handle, & rush holder, to the delicate penny feet, & twisted shaft. Finely pinned construction! It is one of the finest hand wrought iron items I have ever owned. Measures 6" high X 6" long w/handle x 2 3/4" wide. Beautiful patina, and wear commensurate with age. Guaranteed genuine! Purchased at auction of an early lighting collection in IL, about 30 years ago. I hate to part with it, but am downsizing my collection, due to relocation!
Sorry for the photo quality! I can email better ones! I have an older computer, & eBay will no longer allow me to adjust my photos! Check my listings for more great items! I've been told that this item should have been listed as an "Early wrought iron wax jack or taper jack". It's one of the last pieces of my late wifes lighting collection. I've seen similar examples in books in the past, but wasn't sure of it's exact use, & should have done a little more research before listing. It's purpose, was to hold the sealing wax coil which was melted, & used to seal letters. It is circa 1800, and comparable to several found in past & present online auction results, listed as being of American origin. Skinner has very similar example listed in an upcoming auction with a pre-sale estimate of $400-600. The craftsmanship of this example is of higher quality than any of those! My reserve is modest in comparison.
