is a really great 6th-plate daguerreotype of a very pretty gal with wonderful facial characteristics. From the beautiful shape of her chin, those sweet lips and that cute nose, to those gorgeous eyes, dark brows and freckles sprinkled about, she sure is quite a sight. The 1840s' hair and dress style looks so nice on her, too. And as simple or trivial as this may seem, I love the soft, ivory look of the hand that's holding a book. In my eyes and mind, t is such a pleasing kind of feminine beauty from w the hair bracelet circles her wrist to what is seen of her fingers around the book. Maybe I'm a bit crazy, but I just love little things like that. She's really something special to view in a number of ways. I don't know if a specific daguerreotypist can be identified by this, but at least the stars, the harp and the scroll-like design gives the case she's in some of its own character. It is in excellent condition for being a very early case, and the original spine is virtually perfect. The unsealed plate has some obvious tarnish in a couple of different forms as seen, but the image is still terrific to view as the tarnish areas appear very limited at ideal viewing angles. T's what looks to be a diagonal hairline mark on the plate to the left at her chest, and a horizontal one right at her hairline. I assure you that these are barely discernable when holding the image, and I've no doubt that these imperfections were already on the plate at the time the image was taken -- likely a polishing issue. Also, the glass has a tiny bubble and some ultra light scratching and t With all things noted, I cannot stress enough that the actual image is so much better than my digital pictures. It has such beautiful depth and tones and a creamy kind of smoothness to it, and aside from the hair above her forehead, the focus is perfect. You would be absolutely thrilled upon viewing the image yourself. Between the marvelous young lady and the very nice case, this is really a wonderful piece in hand.
