Delicately contoured Belleek Basket with applied Roses and buds adorning the top and leaves trailing down the Basket inside and out. Three tiny shamrocks adorn the top 3 outer contours.Rope twist border at top rim, inside bottom edge, and a double rope border for the base.4 strand basket weave pattern on the bottom. Two impressed pads applied to the base reads: BELLEEK CO. FERMANAGH (Dates this piece prior to 1955) IRELAND Excellent condition... no chips or repairs that I can see... If you look at the bottom inside of bowl along the center 4-strand weave, t are 2 areas 1" apart that appear to be broken (separated)... but when I turn the basket over, in the same area on the back w the applied pad is, it also looks like a crack... I am no expert on Belleek, but I believe that this happened when the pads were applied, because the area is glazed over and has glaze in the cracks.... no sign of glue or a later repair. Same with the top rope twist border... a few areas look 'separated', but are glazed over and intact. The basket is completely intact down to the tiniest petals, shamrocks and thin strands that form the delicately contoured basket. Measures 5 1/4" wide and 2 1/4" tall. |
