Professionally cleaned, fully restored and verified as authentic, this is vintage LODGE as it was meant to look!! When this uncommon 75+ year old #5 cast iron Skillet, left the Lodge factory, it was NOT encrusted with grease and carbon, was NOT rusty, did NOT reek of rancid oil, and allowing for fairly routine kitchen use, now once again look much like it did so many decades ago! This auction is for a VERY GOOD Lodge "Fully Marked" #5 (Iron Finish) cast iron skillet with inset heat ring, in GOOD overall condition. Established in South Pittsburg, Tennessee around 1910, as the successor to the Blacklock Foundry, the Lodge Manufacturing Company in its time, produced some of the best regarded cast iron hollow ware ever produced in America, prior to 1960. Lodge is one of the very few American companies that continues to exist, and still produces cast iron hollow ware to this day. Sadly, in the face of foreign competition and economic necessity, Lodge has since adopted casting and finishing methods that are no longer the equal of their earlier products for casting quality and craftmanship, that were in their day, the equal of anything that the likes of Griswold, Wagner or Favorite ever produced . This not often found vintage LODGE #5 frying pan, produced sometime between 1925 and 1930 , measures 8.0" rim-to-rim, 8.75" spout-to-spout, 12.25" rim-to-handle tip, at 2.0" deep, with a cooking surface diameter of 6.25", and has an inset heat ring diameter of 5.75". This vintage cooking pan is incised on the exterior bottom with the arc-style name " LODGE ", and the large size number " 5", and is embossed with the molder's mark " IP " below . This vintage LODGE skillet is well cast for this early era, of fine grained iron with only nominal exterior casting roughness, and with only a very few casting bumps, dimples and flow marks in evidence, this quality-made and fully cleaned vintage iron fry pan has no chips, cracks, rust, warping, bowing, or repairs, sits absolutely flat on any level surface, and rings nicely when tapped, but does have some scattered shallow pits on the exterior bottom, and two or three areas of what might be aggressive utensil marks or tiny pits on the cooking surface. Still very collectible, and having a nice warm, rich dark color, this cooking skillet has been pre-seasoned with vegetable shortening for your immediate cooking use or display. Frequent use of this frying skillet has greatly worn the still very lightly evident manufacturer's milling marks "CARTWHEEL EFFECT" on the polished interior, even more visable on the cooking surface sides, and is virtually original in the spouts. Despite the presence of the utensil marks/pits and fine scratches, the cooking surface is still QUITE SMOOTH to the touch, still fine for cooking purposes, and virtually non-stick! Any questions?
