An early Stein with the Mettlach mark of 1842-1860 which is located on base; one of the earliest Mettlach trademarks. Unique and one-of-a-kind. Stein has four panels showing high relief figures in dark brown depicting three dancing characters including: Bacchus; Lady with Parasol; and German Male in Costume . Fourth panel is dark gray showing interwoven grapes and leaves. Spiral columns separate each panel and t are arbors and touches of grape vines/leaves over Stein's surface. A background of light bluish gray over entire Stein including inlaid lid. Colors include red-brown and black banding. Top thumblift is geometrical in design with nouveau touches - all pewter. Top design is a tri-panel showing: chalice; lyre, and cap and three nouveau winged designs in dark gray on a bluish gray ground. Stein measures 8-1/2" from base to thumblift. A base diameter 3-3/4" top opening diameter x 2-3/4". On surface of front of pewter area of lid is the following, "18 ADOLPHE HEINTZ? 74 (Dating this stein at 1874)".
