This delightful item is a curiosity as much as a precision instrument. I'm unsure of date but guess somewhere between 1750-1850, manufactured in Bold Street Liverpool by Edward Davis. It is not quite all there and its construction is not perfect. When fully open it is 32.5cm, closed it is 8cm, however there are a number of points that need to be adderessed. Firstly there is no object lens, but also the threaded area is at the end of the 5th draw, meaning the last draw is a very large shade cover, this last draw is also double skinned, with the brass inner tube and the black spiraled cover. This cover has a thread to the top of it where something is missing, also (or perhaps because of this missing collar) it slides up over the last brass tube. Also the escond brass draw is not held in place when extended and will freely slide out. There are 3 eye lenses (2 simular and one extended) and also 2 eye protective covers. There is another lens which may be the object lens, but if it is I can't really see how it would be inserted. The final piece is a brass cap with a thread internally, but i can't see how this would be for anything. The little case measures 11cm x 7cm and has come completely unstuck. I have taken many many photos to help show exactly what this item is and hopefully you can decipher exactly what ti is that i have described read more
