I just love this old mortar and pestle. It has a rich dark patina, but t is nice old red wash left down w the mortar part meets the part w it flares out at the base. Then the red is still remaining all around the top and this shows up very well in photo 3, especially. Photo 5 shows a very tight crack - and I do mean VERY tight!!! It is stable to the point I wonder if someone stabilized it at one time, but nothing shows - no glue, no pegs, etc. The mprtar stands 7 3/4 inches high and is 5 inches diameter at the top and bottom. T is a place on the very bottom outside that looks, in my photo, like it had a filler, but in person it does not and I have no idea what that darkening is - maybe w age cracks came together at the point w it was turned - all tight and stable - just a super look all over.???? It has 5 nice scribe lines/rings around it. The pestle has a mushroom cap top and the best feeling handle - a handle that has felt alot of use. It measures 9 1/8 inches long and is 2 1/2 inches across. PLEASE do email me with any questions BEFORE bidding as I answer daily.
