is an unusual find in a local attic. It is an early fancy woven hair bracelet and two rings or possibly hair ties maybe with wonderful gold metal accents and detail. The group was found in this antique silverplate box in old cotton.I discarded the cotton because it was very degraded and flattened out from probably 100 or more years in the attic. It is interesting because t is an M in fancy script on the lid of the box but I dont know if t is such a thing as a Mourning box for mementos and sentiments or not. Please examine the pictures and ask questions in advance. The group is offered as a complete set as recovered and the fancy metal decorations are at least gold plated and may be solid but I'm only calling them plated to be safe and have not had them tested for actual content.T are some tiny initials on one of the hair ties or small rings on a gold slide through to adjust the size. They are: M.E.H on one side of it and J.Z.M. on the inside. One of the end caps is barely on still but does not pull off.You can see the actual human hair really well on this one.A few small areas with pulls, etc., and you can see the tight frizzy hair going into one side of the fancy golden bracelet face but its still in tightly. The decoration on the bracelet face is a very high relief sprig of Oak tree leaves with and Acorn peeking out the top. This is a classic symbol for maturity and ripe old age. Also, the weaving or braiding style of the hair in the bracelet allows it to stretch out and shrink back again.See pics.Great fresh find for the collector of Victorian era hair jewelry. This group likely dates from the 1860's to 1880's period based on some brief research. While this hairwork jewelry was most often made from the actual hair or a deceased relative or friend,it was not always made to commemorate the dead.Sometimes it was fashioned from the hair of living sweethearts and lovers to be worn as a testament to their devotion to one another.Perhaps the two small ring type examples found with this group were for that purpose but no way to know for sure I guess.Maybe they are just ponytail holders or other hair decorations.Interesting find for the collector of historic mourning hair woven jewelry and the old silveplated box the group or set was found in is included! It's offered as found so see the pics.Questions in advance please.I have put a reserve on this grouping and it is typically 1/2 of the buy it now price as a hint.Quite reasonable for this set.Checks/money orders please.NO PAYPAL.Buyer to pay shipping via Priority Mail (USA ONLY).Please use the shipping calculator to determine postage to your location. Insurance extra & charged at appropriate final value cost if desired.CT residents please add 6% sales tax.
