Primitive Horse Hooked Rug/Mat with Cedar Hanger Hand hooked by my grandmother in deep, muted tans, browns and grays with hints of green, mustard and blues. It is hooked on monks cloth using 100% wool in hand over dyed warm antique and primitive colors. The wool strips in this rug/mat were all individually hand cut with scissors just the way it was done a hundred years ago. This rug/mat is a little darker than is showing in the photos. 'Rusted' baling wire has been wrapped around a small cedar limb (chosen for its aged appearance and visual character) to make an unique and one of a kind rustic hanger for displaying this eye catching design. The cedar also has the added bonus of acting as a natural moth repellant for this lovely piece! A rusty bell, attached to the wire / cedar hanger, complements the primitive nature and color theme of the hand over dyed wool. A matching wool sleeve sewn onto the back makes it easy to remove the limb and use this piece as a small rug, mat, etc or add your own hanger. Very versatile! It will be signed and dated on the back. A wonderful eye catching piece highlighting the best of Americana folk art! Please note: The last photo depicts the horse displayed with other rugs/mats. This auction is for the horse rug only. The crow and star rugs are in separate listings. The picture was included to illustrate read more
