For your consideration, up for auction is a beautiful collection of "The Works of Robert G. Ingersoll". Printed by the Dresden Publishing Company, C.P. Farrell, 1915. Thirteen volumes with exhaustive texts covering political thought, lectures, discussions, miscellany, biography etc. Octavos, green cloth covers with attached paper spine labels, gilt top edge. Condition VG+ with some shelf wear present, some with corner bumps, bindings tight and square, pages show some edge wear but interior clean and bright, some volumes with attached spine labels starting at corners but all otherwise well attached, penned owner's inscription to inside front cover, volume one. Robert G. Ingersoll, known as the "Great Agnostic", was likely the greatest and most prominant orator of post Civil War America. Drawing large public crowds, he could be seen expounding upon a variety of subjects, but most often relating to his agnostic and anti-religious beliefs. In addition to that notoriety, he had previously raised the 11th Regiment Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, which fought at the Batle of Shiloh where he was captured. He aslo served briefly as Illinois Attorney General after the war.
