Available for sale is an uncommon and unusual redware sugar cone. Sugar cones were used by grocers and merchants as a measuring device in selling bulk sugar to customers. This redware cone is glazed on the inside with a brick red coloration and is accented with fine dark manganese flecks as well. Glaze is typical of glazes from the mid-Atlantic area of eastern Pennsylvania, New Jersey, & Virginia. The cone measures 4 1/8" in height, 5 3/8" in diameter, and dates from 1835 - 1865. It is in very good condition for its age and its shape & form. There is modest wear to the rim and a 1" thin chip on the brim of the rim. No hairlines, no repair. Please visit our other listings of early stoneware and advertising miniature jugs. Thanks in advance.
